Abstract
Plastics have properties that are malleable, light, strong, rust resistant and as a good electrical insulator, some plastics have transparent physical properties. The purpose of this study is to describe the effect of thickness variations on the deviation of the formation process on polycarbonate material and to determine the optimal thickness for producing a product made from polycarbonate. In this study, using a plastic sheet with the type of polycarbonate (PC) measuring 500 mm x 300 mm. The vacuum pressure is determined at a constant pressure of 0.39 bar, and a constant temperature of 165 ° C. And to print plastics with optimal quality, the thickness of the polycarbonate is varied into 3 variations in thickness, namely 0.5 mm, 1 mm, and 1.5 mm. From the results of the study, thickness variations greatly affect the shape of the material during the forming process with vacuum forming, this is evident in the percentage change in dimensions and percentage of thickness reduction which shows that the thicker the material gives a greater percentage too, polycarbonate material with a thickness of 0.5 with temperature 165 ° C is more optimal than using a material with a thickness of 1 mm and 1.5 mm the same temperature.
