Abstract

Background: The results of the 2015 SUPAS have tripled the maternal mortality rate compared to the MDGs target. Health workers are needed in dealing with maternal and neonatal emergencies to save the nation by empowering pregnant women with assistance to increase knowledge of pregnant women. One of them is by providing health education through audiovisual media and leaflets. Health education with audiovisual media has the advantage that it combines the functions 2 of audio and visual media so as to attract attention and provide interesting information. Media leaflets provide complete information and allow it to be read and taken anywhere. The purpose of the study: to determine the difference in the effectiveness of audiovisual media compared to health education using leaflet media on knowledge and attitudes about pregnancy care. Research method: this type of research is quantitative using a quasi-experimental design method with a two group pretest posttest design conducted on two different groups receiving different media. Sampling technique with total sampling, 76 pregnant women were divided into two groups, namely 38 pregnant women with audiovisual media and 38 pregnant women with leaflet media. This research instrument uses a questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability. The knowledge and attitude questionnaires were declared valid, namely 15 knowledge questions and 15 attitude questions. Result: data analysis using Mann Whitney test with p < 0.05. The results of the study obtained the level of knowledge with a p-value of 0.04 and attitudes with a p-value of 0.00. Conclusion: providing health education about pregnancy care using audiovisual media is more effective than leaflet media in increasing knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women. Suggestion: the results of this study are expected to assist health workers in reforming and innovating in the provision of health education through audiovisual media and leaflet media as a health education strategy for pregnant women.
