Abstract

One phase in human life that continues to grow older is old age. The elderly phase is often considered a burden by the surrounding community environment because of the aging process that makes the physical and psychic abilities of a person who has entered old age. This makes the elderly often not considered his existence and even discarded by his family. Surakarta City is one of the cities that has a fairly large number of elderly and continues to grow every year because of the effects of the increasing life expectancy, but the number of displaced elderly is also quite a lot, namely 81 people. The above problems underlie the need to design a residence for the elderly that can empower the elderly with a building design that pays attention to the safety, comfort, and ease of the elderly in moving so as to make the elderly become independent in their activities. In their daily activities, the elderly need activity facilities that can support their health and ability to remain active and productive so that the building approach uses the concept of permaculture architecture applied by hydroponic farming, aquaponic, organic fertilizer processing, and waste treatment or other natural resources. The method used is through survey, journal literature and books in accordance with the topic raised. The result is the design of an elderly house design with a touch of permaculture architecture with the aim of becoming a sustainable elderly home and providing benefits for the environment in a sustainable manner.
