Abstract
This study was made to examine the effect of the work environment on employee performance through job satisfaction. The population and sample used to conduct this research are employees of Kantor Pengawasan dan Pelayanan Bea dan Cukai Surakarta (KPPBC Surakarta). The sampling technique used is a saturated sample so that all employees are involved to become respondents with a total of 142 people. In this study, the data source used is primary data with the data collection method using a questionnaire and the measurement scale using the Likert scale. SEM model (structural equation model) was used as a data analysis technique with PLS (partial least square) approach. The results of this study indicate that (1) the work environment has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction. (2) The work environment has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. (3) Job satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. (4) Job satisfaction mediates positively and significantly the effect of the work environment on employee performance
