Abstract
This study aims to describe what factors cause bad loans and how to resolve Cooperatives in an effort to overcome or minimize so that bad loans do not occur. This study uses a qualitative research approach with a case study research design. The subjects in this study were supervisors, chairpersons, treasurers, and employees of the Surakarta City Manunggal Makmur Cooperative. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data in this study used source triangulation techniques and method triangulation. The results of the study stated that; (1) External factors causing bad loans at the Manunggal Makmur Cooperative were the losses experienced by customers in running their business, the absence of good ethics on the part of the customer, the existence of credit loans but without the consent of the family, and intentionally misusing the loan, (2) the internal factors causing bad loans are the lack of human resources, the lack of cooperatives in analyzing credit, weak credit information and supervision systems, and personal/family interference, (3) while the settlement of bad loans at the Manunggal Makmur Cooperative Surakarta City namely through the calling mechanism carried out by the cooperative as the creditor aimed at finding out the cause of the debtor not being able to pay off his debt. In the credit agreement at the Manunggal Makmur Cooperative, Surakarta City, the cooperative should be more optimal in supervising creditors so that the loans provided are not misused by debtors.
