Abstract

The use of the Indonesian language in public places is a must and a characteristic for the Indonesian people, and the policy of regulating the use of language in areas and public services has been regulated in Law Number 24 Year 2009 articles 30 and 36. Language is dynamic, it develops along with the development of human civilization. In the current era of Information and Communication Technology (Information and Communication Technology), the Indonesian language is experiencing rapid development. One reflection of the success of learning Indonesian can be seen in public spaces. If the use of Indonesian in public spaces looks regular, it can be indicated that the teaching of Indonesian has been successful, and vice versa. The objectives of this study are: 1) To describe the use of Indonesian language properly and correctly in the public spaces of Karanganyar City and 2) To describe the implementation of the material for SMP class VIII. The data in this study are pictures and sentences contained in photos of signposts in public spaces in the city of Karanganyar in the form of building names, trademarks, public facilities, and advertisements that have errors in the use of Indonesian. The source of data in this study was obtained from photos of signposts in public spaces in the city of Karanganyar. Data collection techniques using documentation techniques and purposive sampling techniques. The data analysis technique used the agih method. Test the validity of the data in this study using source triangulation techniques. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the researchers found 26 data consisting of 6 signage using Indonesian, 15 signage using English, and 5 signage using Indonesian and English. Of the 26 data that has been grouped, there are 23.0% signage that uses Indonesian, 57.6% signage that uses English and 19.2% signage that uses Indonesian and English. Then, 92.3% of the signboards use good Indonesian, 7.6% of the signboards use correct Indonesian and the implementation of learning is linked as a lesson plan in schools.
