Abstract

Poverty is a problem that will always exist in both developed and developing countries. The number of poor people in Indonesia, especially in Central Java, is still relatively high due to limited employment opportunities, low education, and poor health. This study aimed to estimate the effect of investment as measured by domestic investment, labor, Mean Years of Schooling, and Life Expectancy on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), and GRDP on poverty in Central Java in 35 districts/cities of Central Java in 2017-2020. The model used in this study was a panel data regression with the Fixed Effects Model (FEM) approach, and a chain-rule application in differential. The results of this study indicated that investment and Life Expectancy had no effect on GRDP, while labor and Mean Years of Schooling had a positive effect on GRDP. Then, GRDP had a negative effect on poverty. Thus, mathematically, labor and Mean Years of Schooling had a negative effect on poverty, while investment and Life Expectancy had no effect. Therefore, the chain rule principle was proven in this study. To be able to reduce poverty, the government is expected to develop the potential of each region with the aim of absorbing more investors so that unemployment can be reduced. In addition, the government should also provide and maintain facilities in each region through programs that can improve the quality of education and health, so that quality of human resources improves and poverty can be alleviated.
