Abstract
Poverty is one of the main economic problems every country faces, especially developing countries, including Indonesia. Despite the decline, the number of people living in poverty in Central Java is still relatively high. This study aimed to estimate the effect of mean years of schooling and life expectancy on the number of working people, and the effect of the number of working people on the number of poor people in Central Java from 2011 to 2020. The model used in this study was Fixed Effects Model (FEM) with a panel data regression with the chain rule approach in differential. The results of this study indicated that mean years of schooling and life expectancy were proven to have a positive effect on the number of working people, and the number of working people had a negative effect on the number of poor people. Thus, mathematically, mean years of schooling and life expectancy had a negative effect on the number of poor people so that, the chain rule was proven in this study. To reduce poverty, the government is expected to increase opportunities and types of scholarships so that more people go to school. The government should ease the access to health facilities in all regions so that all levels of society can use them. In addition, the government is also expected to provide various kinds of training programs for vulnerable groups (out of school and poor families) in order to get decent work.
