Abstract
The background of this research is that there are many spelling errors in student essays in the form of narrative texts for seventh grade junior high school students. The narrative text analysed is a suggestive narrative (imaginative) in the form of fantasy stories, this story contains imaginative stories such as fantasy stories, oddities, miracles that cannot be found in the real world, because students can be creative and develop creative talents through their work using his own language. Spelling errors in narrative texts must be sourced from PUEBI (General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling). This writing error includes the use of letters, writing words, using punctuation marks, and writing absorption elements, these are very important for a written work because the weight of the high and low value of the written work is determined by the writing rules in PUEBI. The purpose of this study was to analyse the spelling errors contained in the narrative text of seventh grade junior high school students. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, the data collected using interview, observation, literature and documentary data collection techniques. The results showed that there were spelling errors in the narrative text of seventh grade junior high school students in the form of: 1. Misuse of letters which included errors in capital letters and italics. 2. Errors in writing words only in the re-form. 3. Use of punctuation that includes a period and a comma. 4. The writing of absorption elements is not contained in the narrative texts of suggestions or students' fantasy stories. So there are still many students who experience difficulties and obstacles when understanding the spelling of a narrative text, therefore the teacher must guide and provide direction for improvement to students through remedial.
