Abstract

This study discusses the concept of Moderate Society from the perspective of the interpretation of middle eastern mufassir namely Sayyid Qutb, Wahbah Zuhayli, Rasyid Rido and Ahmad Mustafa al-Maraghi. The purpose of this study is to find out how the concept of moderate society is based on Surah al-Baqarah verse 143. The context of moderate society in that verse is called Ummatan Wasatan. This research is the result of a literature review using descriptive analysis method. The object of this research is the word Ummatan Wasat}an in the Koran. Moderate society is the main society that has good morals, a fair attitude, is balanced in all aspects of life, does not exaggerate and does not reduce in religious matters, does not emphasize materialist or spiritual needs, but combines the two. There are three dimensions of moderate society, namely fair, balanced and good/main. The function of moderate society is as a witness against humans, in this world and in the hereafter.
