Abstract
This study aims to describe the improvement of literacy skills and the formation of independent learning in two single homeschools. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data collection methods were carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The validity of the data in this study used triangulation, both sources, and techniques. Data analysis and interactive model with the following steps: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the formation of literacy skills at homeschooling Sinta and homeschooling Sumardiono is based on the interests and curiosity of each individual child which is unique and natural. These two single homeschools also direct their children to write and create portfolios of their work using digital media as a form of reconceptualization of literacy and indicators of literacy skills. In building independent learning, parents carefully consider the uniqueness of each individual child based on interests, learning styles, multiple intelligences, time, availability of environmental carrying capacity, life experience, and the need for knowledge. The formation of learning independence is also carried out systematically, by instilling 3 aspects, namely learning culture, skills, and self-management.
