Abstract
Surakarta City is the third largest developing city, the population growth is relatively high, which is directly proportional to the increasing demand for urban space. Increasing the intensity of development with limited land availability encourages land use change, from the function of open space and undeveloped land to residential, commercial, public facilities and infrastructure. From these linkages in the process of development and growth of the City of Surakarta, it needs to be balanced with the availability of Green Open Space (RTH). The need for recreation space is also very much needed. Urban parks in Indonesia seem closed, slum, filled with irregular street food stalls, and often become negative urban spaces (Imelda Akmal, 2019). Therefore, the design of this Public Open Space and Plaza can be a solution to the existing problems. The method used in this design process is a literature study and a precedent study which is then obtained as a guide in designing. Public Open Space and Plaza will be an area with an ecological concept with the potential that exists on the banks of the Anyar River so that the existence of public open space does not interfere with the surrounding environment but will encourage people to live a more quality life with existing recreational spaces or open spaces.
