Abstract

Mental health is an important aspect that needs to be maintained for students. This is because students have varying psychological pressures in dealing with learning activities and in their daily activities. Not a few students who experience anxiety or stress in undergoing lectures. This study aims to determine the correlation between friendship and student mental health. Respondents in this study were 104 students at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta aged 18-22 years. The results of this study showed a correlation value of 0.373 with p 0.00. The better the students' ability to make friends, the healthier they are mentally. A total of 21.1% of respondents have a very high level of friendship, 68.3% have a high level of friendship, and 10.6% are classified as moderate. Meanwhile, the mental health of students who are classified as low is 11.5%, moderate is 44.2%, high is 35.6%, and very high is 8.7%. Thus, the results of this study indicate the very important role of friendship with the mental health of students. This can be seen from the effective contribution of friendship to mental health, which is 13.9%. The results of this study can be used as a basis for providing interventions to improve the mental health of students.
