Abstract

Tedian / A310170129. Students' Responses on Stigma against Islam in the novel Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika by Hanum Salsabiela Rais. Thesis of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Agustus, 2021. The research conducted was the students' responses to the stigma against Islam in the novel Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika by Hanum Salsabiela Rais. The aims of this research are (1) to describe the structure of the novel Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika by Hanum Salsabila Rais. (2) Analyzing the form of Islamic stigma in the novel Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika by Hanum Salsabila Rais. (3) Revealing student responses to the stigma of Islam in the novel Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika by Hanum Salsabila Rais. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The data in this study are in the form of words and sentences in the novel Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika by Hanum Salsabiela Rais and the opinions of students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The data collection technique used is library technique, note-taking, listening and distributing questionnaires or questionnaires via google form. Data validation or data validity is using triangulation techniques. The data analysis technique is by doing an in-depth reading to obtain the results of the research and an analytical descriptive approach. The results of this study are (1) The structure in the novel is in the form of themes, characterizations, plot and setting. (2) The form of stigma against Islam in this novel consists of labeling, stereotyping, separation and discrimination. (3) Based on the responses of students majoring in Indonesian Language and Literature at UMS regarding the stigma against Islam in the novel Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika, which was represented by 6 respondents, there were various responses. These responses have positive or negative values, depending on the reception of each respondent as a reader. Most do not justify the stigma against Islam because the stigma against Islam shows an attitude of intolerance between religious communities, although there are those who argue that the giving of separation that occurs is a natural thing. This is caused by people who are traumatized by the September 11 tragedy whose majority of the victims are non-Muslims
