Abstract
Gamelan is a collection of traditional musical instruments from Java, Sunda and Bali. There are various types of gamelan, one of which is the balungan gamelan, namely saron. Saron is made of an alloy between copper (Cu) and tin (Sn), with an alloy ratio of three to ten where 23% tin (Sn) and 77% copper (Cu). One of the manufacturing processes is the quenching process. In this process, it is generally bent using water cooling media. Therefore, this time a study was conducted to compare the quenching process using cooling media including water, oil and air. From the results of testing the hardness value there is a difference between using water, oil and air cooling media. Where the hardness value with water cooling media is 176 BHN, oil is 204 BHN and air is 189 BHN. From the results of the surface roughness test, the following results show that the roughness value of saron blades with water cooling media has a roughness value of 1.1650 µm, for oil cooling media it is 0.2594 µm, and for air conditioning media it has a value of 0.4813 µm. The results of the microstructure test showed differences in the size of the copper (Cu) structure. And the results for testing the chemical composition there were differences in the percentage composition of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn), where for cooling media the Cu content was 78.23% and Sn 21.55%, for oil cooling media the Cu content was 77.55% and Sn 22.12%, for air conditioning media the content of Cu is 77.86% and Sn is 21.84%.
