Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by an increase in blood sugar levels. Self management is an individual's ability to manage, control and reduce the impact of the disease he is suffering from. Self management is needed to improve the quality of life for sufferers. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between self management and the quality of life of people with diabetes mellitus in the working area of Baki Community Health Center, Sukoharjo Regency. This type of research uses quantitative research with descriptive correlative research design, namely knowing the correlation between the independent variable (self management) and the dependent variable (quality of life of diabetes patients). The design of this study was a cross sectional design approach. The technique used in this research is non probability sampling using accidental sampling technique with the results of a total sample of 73 people. The results showed that self-management was sufficient (84.9%) and quality of life was adequate (79,5%). The results of the correlation test obtained a p-value of 0.000 (p value <0.05). The conclusion of this study is that there is a correlation between self-management and the quality of life of diabetes mellitus patients in the Baki Public Health Center, Sukoharjo Regency.
