Abstract

General Sudirman Salatiga Corridor is a trade and services area located in the center of Salatiga. The location and function of the area made Jalan Jenderal Sudirman Salatiga develop into the Central Bussiness District (CBD). The development of the area makes the need for land and informal activities to increase. The problem caused the comfort of users and visuals of the area to decrease, so there needs to be the development of corridors that can improve the physical and non-physical quality in the corridor area of General Sudirman Salatiga. On the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic has a serious impact on the region, there needs to be a response from an architectural point of view that can help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus by responding to health protocols into a form of design that can later provide comfort in activities within the region. Based on this thought, the author proposed the concept of planning and designing the development of General Sudirman street area by making the area as a public space in the form of a city walk that supports activities in the area and surrounding areas with a new normal approach. Some of the new normal approaches are, among others, the development of building displays and the addition of openings in the form of windows as a response to utilizing natural air and sunlight entering the building, developing a road network in the corridor to the maximum by regulating pedestrian lanes and road network systems with the addition of bicycle lane facilities in response to new community habits, developing signage as a tool to provide information to visitors about the COVID-19 protocol that applies to the region , regulating the need for space and layout for street vendors during the pandemic with adequate capacity and sink facilities. So that in the future the corridor of Jalan Jenderal Sudirman can become a trading area with a democratic corridor pattern for pedestrians. The purpose of a democratic corridor pattern is to make users or visitors feel comfortable, safe and protected when passing through it.
