Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine an increase in competency achievement through the application of the Discovery Learning method in class XI IPS SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta for the 2019/2020 academic year. The research was conducted, namely the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method which was carried out during II cycles, each of which was passed into 6 research stages, namely: (1) Stimulus; (2) Problem Identification; (3) Data Collection; (4) Data Processing; (5) Proof; (5) Draw Conclusions. In this action research the research subjects were all students of class XI IPS totaling 17 students with an allocation of 7 male students and 10 female students. This research was carried out by collaborating with class XI social science teachers with material on economic growth and development. The basic competencies that must be achieved are analyzing the concepts of economic growth and economic development as well as problems and how to overcome them. Data collection techniques used observation, online media google classroom, interviews, and posttest. The results showed that the application of Discovery Learning showed an increase in the achievement of competency in learning outcomes in economic subjects. The results can be seen from students who score more than the minimum completeness criteria (KKM). The facts show that the results can be proven before the action is carried out, the percentage of student competency attainment that is complete is (64.70%), after the first cycle of action, the achievement of student competency is complete (70.58%), and after the second cycle action the number of students is carried out. complete becomes (82.35%). Based on the research, the conclusion was that the Discovery Learning learning model in economic subjects could increase the competency achievement of class XI IPS students at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta for the 2019/2020 academic year.
