Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of 0o, 15o, 30o mold slope variations with the centrifugal casting method on the chemical composition, density, porosity and microstructure with the main material Aluminum from the used piston. In this study using the Centrifugal die casting method. 750oC pour temperature and 700rpm motor rotational speed. The slope of the mold varies into angles 0o, 15o, 30o. Chemical composition testing using Emmision Sprectometer (ASTM E-1251) test equipment. Calculation of density is done by calculating the mass and volume of the cast. Observation of porosity using a digital microscope. Micro structure testing using a metallographic microscope (ASTM E3-11). Test results The chemical composition of this material contains (Al) 85.20%, (Si) 11.34%, (Cu) 1.499%, (Ni) 1.1024%, (Fe) 0.5736% and other elements . Refer to ASTM B.85 standard classified into Al-Si (Aluminum - Silicon) A413.0. The test results of the Centrifugal die casting method density 0˚, 15˚, 30˚ have a value of density with a value of 2.7324 gr / cm3, 2.7324 gr / cm3, 2.7621 gr / cm3. From these data it can be concluded that the greater the density, the less porosity. The results of microstructure testing of cast products with a slope of 0o show the spread of β (Si) phases far apart and have large granular shapes. In cast products with a slope of 15o β phase (Si) it looks more closely and a little smaller. In cast products with a slope of 30o, the β (Si) phase is closed and small.
