Abstract

The objectives of this study is to describe the consumptive behavior and the impact shown by students in Vocational High School (SMK). This research was carried out in SMK Negeri 3 Sukoharjo, Central Java. The sources of information of this research are students from class X of the Accounting and Financial Institution expertise programs with a variety of economic backgrounds and different characteristics. The research method uses qualitative with ethnographic design. Data collection is done by interview, observation, and documentation techniques. The data validity uses a test of credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The technique of data analysis consist of data reduction, data analysis, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that students' consumptive behavior were dominated by hanging out at current places or food stalls, excessive shopping through online shop sites or other social media, and cosmetics purchases by female students. While the impact consists of negative and positive impacts. The negative impacts are consumerism and hedonism lifestyle, lack of saving, failed to manage finances, and cause social jealousy. The positive impacts are students become more confident and have a good level of association.
