Abstract

This study aims to examine the different abilities of male and female students in solving mathematical problems oriented to the National Science Olympiad and describe the ability of male and female students in understanding problems, planning problem solving, carry out problem solving plans, and re-examine procedures and results of mathematical problem solving based on the National Science Ompiade in class VIII of SMPN 26 Surakarta. This research is a qualitative and quantitative research. Data collection techniques are done by the method of test, interview, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques using the t test. The results of the study concluded that: 1) Male students have better abilities than female students in solving math problem problems in class VIII SMPN 26 Surakarta. t test results showed that tcount was 2.088 with a significance value of 0.045. Because the significance value is less than 0.05, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the ability to solve mathematical problems oriented to the National Science Olympiad between male and female students. 2) There is no significant difference in ability between male and female students in understanding mathematical problems oriented to the National Science Olympiad. This is evident from the results of the t test which showed a tcount of 1.638 and a significance value of 0.112 more than 0.05. 3) There is no significant difference in ability between male and female students in planning mathematical problem solving oriented to the National Science Olympiad. This is evident from the results of the t test which showed a tcount of 1,150 and a significance value of 0.259 over 0.05. 4) There is no significant difference in ability between male and female students in implementing plans for problem solving oriented to the National Science Olympiad. This is evident from the results of the t-test which showed a tcount of -0.157 and a significance value of 0.876 over 0.05. 5) There is a significant difference in ability between male and female students in re-examining the procedures and results of solving mathematical problems oriented to the National Science Olympiad. This is evident from the results of the t test which showed a tcount of 2.145 and a significance value of 0.043 less than 0.05.
