Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of character-caring character education through the Adiwiyata program for students of SMP 9 Surakarta in the academic year 2018/2019. Environmental Care is included in 18 character values developed by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (Ministry of Education and Culture). Environmental care character is a major problem for students or the young generation of Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method. The subjects of this study were principals, teachers and students of Surakarta 9th Middle School. Methods of data collection using interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that the Adiwiyata program can apply or apply environmentally caring character education to Surakarta 9 Public Middle School students. This activity has been carried out through a variety of environment-based policies, the implementation of environmentally sound schools through PLH, participatory school-based activities involving direct students, such as picket classes, clean Fridays, environmental actions etc., as well as the provision of facilities and infrastructure. The obstacle that is implementing the Adiwiyata program as an implementation of character care for the environment in Surakarta 9 Public Middle School is that there are still some students who litter. The solution is to provide examples or examples directly about the environment to students, Adiwiyata socialization program, involving students taking environmental action, tolerating cleanliness etc.
