Abstract

This research studies how struggle for making dream come true the major character is reflected in Arthur Golden’s Memoirs of a Geisha, especially viewed from individual psychological approach. Therefore, it analyzes the movie in terms of its structural elements and based on the individual psychological perspective. This study belongs to qualitative study. In this method the writer uses two data sources; they are primary and secondary data source. The primary data source and the object of the study is the movie Memoirs of a Geisha itself, meanwhile the secondary data source are from the article, internet, books, and references related to this study. The writer collects the data from both primary and secondary data sources in a short of document evidence. The results of the study show that: first, Arthur Golden wants to utter his idea that make dream come true for being a geisha should be achieved by struggle, and second, struggle for making dream come true by sacrifice will influence the psychological development of the major character. In this movie, Chiyo (Sayuri) as the major character has the struggle for making dream to be a geisha to reinforce her psychological development.
