Abstract

Managing a class is a teacher's skill to create and maintain conditions in the classroom and condition them again if there are disturbances that occur to maintain optimal classroom conditions during the teaching and learning process. Therefore it is necessary to apply good classroom management skills in order to increase student learning participation. In applying the skills of managing teacher classes, obstacles will be overcome that can be overcome by the efforts and solutions applied by the teacher. The purpose of this study is (1) to describe the way teachers apply classroom management skills to increase learning participation of 5th grade students in Terkesi Elementary School 1 (2) identify barriers in managing classes in grade 5 Terkesi Elementary School 1 (3) find out the solutions applied by the teacher in overcoming obstacles in managing classes in 5th grade 1 Elementary School. This type of research is qualitative research. Data collection techniques with observation, interviews and documentation. The validity of the data uses source triangulation and technical triangulation. The results of the study showed that, (1) the application of classroom management skills still used the old method, which was still based on books and lectures (2) obstacles experienced in classroom management, namely difficulty focusing student attention, student delinquency and teacher's voice. (3) solutions applied by the teacher, namely by planting self-discipline, emphasizing positive things, improving explaining skills and asking the teacher.
