Abstract

With the birth of Law No. 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright, it can provide legal protection regarding copyright to traditional art works and the role of the Indonesian government in providing legal protection for traditional artwork. This study aims to determine the implementation of copyright legal protection for traditional dance in Surakarta based on Law No. 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright, knowing the obstacles faced by the government in an effort to protect the copyright of traditional artwork. The research method uses an empirical juridical approach, primary and secondary data sources, data collection techniques used through literature studies and interviews, using qualitative data analysis. The results of the study show that the implementation in terms of protection of dance studios and art groups has been able to provide protection in accordance with Law No. 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright, with the form of providing a parent number to dance studios and art groups. The obstacles faced by the government of the Surakarta City Cultural Service can be seen from internal and external factors. Keywords: Copyright, Protection, Traditional Dance
