Abstract

In this era, people demanded to think critically. There are a lot of benefits by applying critical thinking daily life. This is also true in the field of education. Critical thinking is an important part of a student's academic life. When people think critically, that individual will weigh all sides of the argument and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. This study aims to determine students' critical thinking skills Grade VIII in Public Junior High School of Ngemplak in Solving Two-Variable Linier Equation System Problems (SPLDV). This research is a qualitative descriptive approach and use purposive sampling technique. Based on the results obtained by the fact that as many as 91.67% of students can explain basic information in question (clarification), 63.33% of students can provide the correct arguments accompanied by the right reasons anyway (assessment), 60.00% of students can solve problems using a variety of alternative ways in accordance with the concept (strategy and tactics), and 65.00% of the students have been able to provide conclusions on the matter with a clear and logical (inference). This means that the students’ critical thinking skills need to be improved so that all indicators can be achieved maximally.
