Abstract

Background: Restrain is a physical force to limit the freedom of movement of individuals, physical strength uses medical devices and human power. Physical restraints use cuffs on the wrists and ankles. The effect of restrain and cuff actions on violent behavior concludes that there is an effect of restrain on physical cuffs on violent behavior. To ensure that patient safety measures need to be chosen that are safe and not injurious, the rope on the restrain is made of cloth that is cuffed so that it is soft and strong and Avoid abrasions on the restrain skin. Amok patients with violent behavior need more special treatment. Acute space and emergency room installation is the place that mostly handles amok patients with restrain measures. Nurses have different abilities, especially to treat amok patients with restrain measures. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of nurses to perform restrain actions in amok patients in the Emergency Unit of RSUD Dr.Arif Zainudin Surakarta. Method: This study uses a type of qualitative research using a phenomenology research design approach. The participants were 9 people who were emergency room nurses, Mental Hospital, Patients, Family of patients. In this study assisted by the head of the room in accordance with the criteria to be examined and have achieved redundancy or data that has been taken saturated. The sample technique used is using Purposive Sampling. The data has been collected through the stages of in-depth interviews and nurses' observation in handling restrain actions in amok patients at the ED. The results of the research: The results of the study after the Thematic Analysis process were carried out with three themes, namely the restrain binding procedure in the patient, the symptoms felt by the patient when restrained, the giving of consent sheets to the patient.
