Abstract

This study aims to improve the student’s activeness in learning Linear Equation System of Two Variables using Open-Ended Approach on VIII B students of SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta amounting to 27 students. The type of this research is a Classroom Action Reasearch (CAR). The data collection techniques were interview, observation, documentation, and field notes methods. Implementation of action research as much as two cycles. The data analysis techniques were comparative descriptive technique and qualitative descriptive technique. The results of this study shows there is an improvement of student’s activeness, as follows: (1) The number of students who asks questions in the first condition is about 11,11% and it raises to be 62,96%. (2) The number of students who answer the questions in the first condition is about 18,05% and it raises to be 74,07%. (3) The number of students who give opinions in the first condition is about 7,4% and it raises to be 59,26%. The average percentage of student’s activeness has increased from pre cycles - cycles I - cycle II that is 12.34% - 43.21% - 62.96%. Based on the description, it can be concluded that using open-ended approach can improve the student’s activeness. Keywords :student’s activeness, open-ended approach
