Abstract

The design of the melinjo roaster can be done as an innovation to increase the production of chips in UMKM emping melinjo house, Mr. Suparno, having his address at Windan RT 01 / RW 09, Makam Haji, Kec. Kartosuro, Kab. Sukoharjo, Central Java. This study aims to make a melinjo roaster that is useful for helping the melinjo frying process as the main ingredient in making melinjo chips and analyzing the feasibility of making melinjo roaster. Making melinjo roaster is done by benchmarking with a manual coffee roaster without using a machine. There are three types of coffee roaster that will be a benchmark for melinjo roaster, namely: 1) Coffee roaster machine, 2) Portable coffee roaster, 3) Coffee roaster with rotary lever. The benefits of using melinjo roaster include chips production which can increase from 4 kg per day to 6 kg per day, roasting time per kg from 73 minutes to 33 minutes, and use of gas fuel from 6 tubes per month to 4 tubes per month. The maximum capacity of melinjo roaster is 1.5 kg melinjo. The payback period of the investment is one month and six days and to reach the break even point must produce 2.4 kg of melinjo chips.
