Abstract

The addition of material to the printed sand will result in products of various properties and characters. The character of the printed sand will affect the casting result. the purpose of this study is to know the effect of adding bentonite to the quality of casting. This research used used Alumunium material or re-melt using smelting kitchen. Variation of bentonite addition used 2%, 4%, 6%. Data analysis showed that the percentage of depreciation for bentonite variation of 2% was 1.09%, for 4% bentonite variation of 1.88% and 6% variation of 2.93%. From the observation of porosity of 2% bentonite mixture which is at least compared with 4% variation, 6% bentonite defect occurred because low permeability cause air can not get out from sand mold so that air trapped in metals prmeabilitas value of bentonite mixture 2% got result 67,00 while 4% bentonite equal to 65,00 and 6% equal to 62,00. The density test was obtained for 2% variation of 26,20 gr / ml while 4% variation was 25,81% gr/ml and bentonite 6% was 24,40 gr / ml. From the chemical composition test there are 2 dominant elements (Al) 81,44%, (Si) 11,9 so that from element in this material including aluminum silicon alloy (Al-Si). From the vickers test results obtained for the 2% variation reached 109,950 VHN higher than the 4% variation of 94.658 VHN and 6% of 84,096 VHN.
