Abstract
Spatial ability is a very important aspect in studying geometry. The high spatial ability of the student has an effect on the quality of students’ spatial ability. It is importan to know how the spatial ability of student to make learning and theaching more optimal. This study aim to describe the spatial ability of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Sawit in solving quadrilateral matter based on Van Hiele thinking level. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were three student of class VII D SMP Negeri 2 Sawit., consisting of one student who has high spatial ability, one student who has medium spatial ability and one student who has low spatial ability. Data collection technique used are test result related to quadrilateral material, interviews and documentation. Validity of data by using triangulation technique. Data analysis technique is done through data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The result showed that the level of visualization thinking can be achieve by the three subjects they are student who has high spatial ability, medium spatial ability and low spatial ability. Analysis thinking level can only be achieve by student who has high spatial abitily and medium ability, while student who has low ability still can not reach that level. Informally deductive level can only be achieved by student who has high spatial ability, while student who has medium spatial ability and low spatial ability stil can not reach that level. Therefore, student’s spatial ability have connection with mathematics ability.
