Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of post weld heat treatment towards on hardness, microstructure, SEM and also EDS of FCAW welded carbon steel. The methodology was used an experimental method carried out in an engineering laboratory with an emphasis on mechanical characteristics (hardness), physical (microstructure) and chemical properties (SEM and EDS) of the test material (ASTM A36) using the FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) welding method. The design of this research is by testing and comparing the test objects (specimens) with variations in post-weld heat treatment temperature differences to determine the level of hardness, microstructure, SEM and EDS. The results showed that the highest hardness value was found in the area where the post weld heat treatment was applied at a temperature of 450˚C with an average hardness value of 39.2 HRC, while the lowest hardness value was found in the post weld heat treatment temperature of 750˚C with a hardness value of 14.7 HRC. The results of the microstructure showed that post-welding heat treatment resulted in an increase in grain in each area. And the results of SEM and the EDS analysis showed that the dominating element was iron (Fe) and the grains of elements contained in the material will grow larger when exposed to heat, so that it will affect the properties of the material.
