Abstract
Farming is one of the sectors that plays an important role in meeting the food needs of the community, one of which is chicken farming. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that national broiler chicken consumption in 2025 reached around 3.92 million tons, up 5.4% compared to the previous year. This increase shows that chicken farming productivity needs to be supported by the application of technology that can improve maintenance efficiency. However, feeding and monitoring the cage conditions are still largely done manually, which can potentially lead to Delayed feeding and less than optimal environmental condition monitoring in the cages. This study aims to design and build an automatic chicken feeding system based on NTP Server and manual control using Firebase Realtime Database, as well as monitoring cage conditions based on the Internet of things (IoT). The system uses an ESP32 microcontroller, a DHT22 sensor to monitor temperature, MQ-135 sensor is used to detect changes in ammonia gas levels, HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor to monitor feed availability, and a servo motor as the feed actuator. The research method was carried out through hardware and software design, sensor integration with ESP32, and system performance testing in a chicken coop. Test results showed that the DHT22 sensor had an accuracy level of 96.14% to 99.08%, while the ultrasonic sensor had an error rate of 0.71% to 10.00%. The temperature and ammonia gas monitoring system was also able to activate the actuator according to the set limits. Automatic feeding was successfully carried out at 6:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 5:00 PM with a response Delay of 0.1–0.3 seconds. In addition, the manual feeding system via the website worked well with a response Delay of 0.5–1 second. Based on these results, The system that was designed is capable of running automatic feeding functions, manual control, and real-time monitoring of the coop conditions well, so it can support farmers in improving the efficiency of chicken maintenance.
