Abstract

Coloring on batik generally using dyes from chemicals or synthetic materials butnowadays many use raw materials from nature sources. Natural dyes are extractedfrom various parts of plants sech as leaves, stems, bark, flowers, fruits and roots ofplants. This study explore of natural dyes using mangosteen peel as the mainingredient because pigment of mangosteen peel are well suited for use as naturalfabric dyes with experiment methode. The dye extracted from the peel ofmangosteen and then fixation using mordants like alum, lime, tanjung and starfruit.To obtain color dyes with good colorfastness, a fixation process is important. Thestudy used to find out feasibility of using mangosteen peel as a natural dye materialby test on resistence to wash with detergent, sun exposure, and heat from iron. Theresult showed that color fastness varied depending on the type of the test. Fixationusing tunjung is the best color durability. Mangosteen peel based dye is good, ecofriendly alternative to synthetic dyes
