Abstract

The ability to read and write at the beginning of low grade students must be mastered by students in grades I, II and III as the basic foundation of learning in the next grade. The teacher's ability to use the right method in reading and writing skills is very necessary, so that it shows good results in the learning process. The aims of this study were, (1) to describe the competence of teachers in applying the Synthetic Analytical Structure method (2) to describe the application of the Synthetic Analytical Structure (SAS) method to the reading and writing skills of low grade students (3) to describe the impact of applying the Synthetic Analytical Structure method (SAS).This research is a qualitative research with a phenomenological qualitative design where the researcher focuses on describing the actual incident in detail and depth about the use of the SAS (Synthetic Structural Analytical) method in the early reading and writing skills of low grade students at SDN 02 Macanan, Kebakkramat District, Karanganyar Regency. The research subjects were 35 students in class I, 18 students in II and 22 students in III. The data were collected using interview, observation and documentation techniques.The results showed that (1) there was an increase in teacher competence in using learning methods, becoming more creative and innovative in each learning process, (2) students' initial reading and writing skills also increased in each indicator, namely neatness of writing, completeness of words, word order in sentences and students' reading skills became better after the SAS method was implemented. (3) Overall the impact of the results of this study showed that there was an increase in reading and writing skills in class I of 80% of 85 students, class II 89% of 18 students and class III 91% of 22 students. The average ability to read and write for the low class is 85.33%. The Synthetic Analytical Structure Method can be applied to the beginning reading and writing skills of low grade students. The results of the data analysis can be concluded that the application of the SAS method is very helpful for students in learning to read and write at the beginning.
