Abstract
Character is a thought that comes from a person's personality in the form of action, whether it is positive action or negative action. Everyone has two personalities that sometimes direct themselves to do good things but also do bad things. If seen today, there are many cases that occur such as bullying, brawls, dishonesty during exams, free sex, and other negative things that are common among students today, therefore it is necessary if students are given motivation, direction and guidance in character learning. One of the figures who can be used as role models in learning this character is Buya Hamka, because his teachings are inseparable from Islamic law. SMP Islam Al Azhar 21 Solo Baru is one of the school institutions that has instilled a character education program since it was first established, character building taught in schools focuses on 10 character values which are run through daily, weekly and annual school programs. This study aims to describe Buya Hamka's view of character and describe the implementation of character according to Buya Hamka's view at Al Azhar 21 Islamic Junior High School Solo Baru. This type of research is library research and field research using library research and phenomology approaches. Data collection techniques used are literature, interviews, observation and documentation. The object of this research is the views of Buya Hamka and Al Azhar 21 Islamic Junior High School in Solo Baru. While the subjects in the study were the Principal, Deputy Head of Curriculum, students, Counseling Guidance teachers, Musrif dormitories, and Islamic Religious Education teachers. The results of this study explain that the figure of Buya Hamka provides a character view that can be relevant in the world of education today because his teachings are never separated from Islamic law. The implementation of the existing characters at Al Azhar 21 Islamic Junior High School Solo Baru focuses on 10 character values which are run through daily, weekly and annual programs.
