Abstract

This study aims to improve mathematical problem solving skills with realistic mathematics education models in learning mathematics in class VIII odd semester students of SMP Negeri 1 Jatipuro in 2021/2022. This type of research is classroom action research. The research consisted of two cycles, the first cycle consisted of two meetings and the second cycle consisted of one meeting. The subjects in this study were class VIII A students, totaling 16 students. Data collection techniques consist of observation, field notes, documentation and tests. The validity of the data using triangulation techniques. Data analysis techniques in this study include data reduction, data presentation and data verification. Based on the results of the study showed that there was an increase in mathematical problem solving ability. This can be seen from the following indicators: 1) The ability of students to understand the problem before taking action is 4 students (25%), in the first cycle increased to 10 students (62.5%), and in the second cycle to 14 students ( 87.5%), 2) The ability of students in formulating problem-solving strategies before taking action, as many as 3 students (18.75%), in the first cycle increased to 7 students (43.75%), and in the second cycle to 11 students (68.75%), 3) The ability of students in implementing problem-solving strategies before taking action, as many as 2 students (12.5%), the first cycle increased to 7 students (43.75%), and in the second cycle to 10 students (62.5%), 4) The ability of students to re-examine the answers obtained before the action was taken as many as 2 students (12.5%), in the first cycle increased to 4 students (25%), and in the second cycle to 9 students (56.25%).
