Abstract
Unemployment is one the most frequent problems in an economy. In Central Java, even though unemployment rate has decreased, the number of unemployed people is still relatively high. This study aimed to estimate the effect of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), human capital, and inflation on the open unemployment rate in Central Jawa in 2015-2019 using a panel data regression with the Random Effects Model (REM) approach. The results of this study indicated that mean years of schooling had a positive effect on the open unemployment rate, life expectancy and inflation had a negative effect on unemployment, and GRDP had no effect on the open unemployment rate. The governments is expected to increase domestic revenue by strengthening the trade balance, particularly through increasing exports and investment, so that economic growth is boosted. In addition, the governments is also expected to provide various scholarship programs and other educational assistance so that more and more people can receive education in the hope of producing more quality human resources.
