Abstract

Poverty is a problem that is difficult to control. Although it has been decreasing, there are still a lot of poor people in Indonesia. This study aimed to estimate the effect of inflation, HDI, and open unemployment on poverty in Indonesia in 1997-2020 using the Domowitz-Elbadawi Error Correction Model (ECM) approach. The results of this study indicated that in the short term and long term, inflation was proven to have a positive effect on poverty, while HDI and open unemployment in the short term did not affect poverty. Meanwhile, in the long term, HDI had a negative effect on poverty, and open unemployment had a positive effect on poverty. The government is expected to control inflation to maintain people's purchasing power so that the increase in people's income becomes more meaningful in meeting basic needs. Furthermore, it is crucial that the government increase HDI growth by making various programs to improve education and health. Providing enough job opportunities is also crucial in reducing the unemployment rate.
