Abstract
Karak Industry is a home industry that is often found in Mojolaban District, especially in Gadingan Village. This home industry is quite profitable for the surrounding community because the location is not too far from where they live and does not require special skills in the process, thus making some people who not all of them can be absorbed into the world of work that requires special skills to have job opportunities. This study aims to, 1) Analyze the social and economic characteristics of workers before and during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Karak Industry in Mojolaban District; 2) Knowing the factors that encourage workers to work in the Karak Industry in Mojolaban District before and during the covid 19 pandemic. This study uses a survey method with a questionnaire as a data collection tool. The population of karak industrial workers in Mojolaban District is 109 people. The sample taken amounted to 55 people with simple random sampling technique or random. The data analysis method used is descriptive quantitative analysis and analysis with a spatial approach. The results showed that the social and economic characteristics of karak industrial workers in Mojolaban District before and during the pandemic experienced changes, especially in terms of working hours and time of receiving wages. In terms of working hours, there were 12 workers who before the pandemic worked between 8-9 hours, then the pandemic period was reduced to 6-7 hours. Likewise, 2 workers who originally worked 6-7 hours, some workers were reduced to working hours between 4-5 hours. Regarding the time of receiving wages, before the pandemic 70.9% was given every day, but during the pandemic the wages of some workers were changed to once a week. The factor that encourages workers to continue working in the karak industry is that the workplace is not far from their place of residence, the majority of which are only in the range of 500 meters to 1 km. Other factors are free working hours/free time, and no contractual ties.
