Abstract

This research is motivated by the reality of life in the people of Wonorejo Hamlet, Tuban Village, Tuban Subdistrict, Gondangrejo District, Karanganyar Regency who always choose Madrasah Tsanawiyah as further education for their child. This study aims to explain the motivation of parents in sending their children to Madrasah Tsanawiyah and how the role of parents in motivating their children to attend Madrasah Tsanawiyah. This research is a type of field research that focuses on a social phenomenon that occurs in Wonorejo Hamlet, Tuban Village, Tuban Subdistrict, Gondangrejo District, Karanganyar Regency with an ethnographic approach, the subjects in this study are parents in Wonorejo Hamlet RT 01 RW 06 who send their children to Madrasah Tsanawiyah. and the object of this research is the motivation of parents in sending their children to Madrasah Tsanawiyah and the role of parents in motivating their children to attend Madrasah Tsanawiyah. The data collection methods in this study are interviews, observation, and documentation methods, while the data analysis techniques are collecting raw data, displaying data, reducing data, verifying and drawing conclusions. The data validity technique uses source triangulation, technical triangulation, and time triangulation. The results of this study indicate that parents in Wonorejo Hamlet have two kinds of motivation, namely internal and external motivation in sending their children to Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Internal motivation is to have pious children, understand Islam, be diligent in worship, have noble character, behave politely, be devoted to both parents, be useful for the homeland and the nation, and be successful in the world and in the hereafter. While the external motivation is that Madrasah Tsanawiyah has a lot of religious lessons, the distance of Madrasah Tsanawiyah from close homes, the cost of education is also cheap, and the desire of the child to study at Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Parents in Wonorejo Hamlet also play an important role in motivating children to attend Madrasah Tsanawiyah by acting as educators, motivators, facilitators, and mentors for the child.
