Abstract
ABSTRACT The background of this research is that there are still many principals who lack or even do not understand their duties, responsibilities, and obligations as a figure who becomes a role model and example for teachers, students, and stakeholders in the school. The principal is not just a leader figure who must obey all the orders and rules he has made, but the principal should also be a protector of his subordinates. In contrast to the Principal of SMP Negeri 1 Larangan Brebes, in carrying out strategies on teacher performance, one of them is the Personal Approach (personal approach), namely by building an emotional bond between the principal and his teachers. The purpose of this study was to describe the principal in improving teacher performance and describe the achievement of the principal's strategy in improving teacher performance at SMP Negeri 01 Larangan Brebes. This research includes field research with the type of qualitative research. The subjects in this study were principals and teachers. Data collection methods used are interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis was carried out by deductive analysis. The validity of the data was tested by triangulation of data sources, namely by deductive data analysis, namely a theory built by obtaining data from different sources and using the same technique. The results in this study can be locked there are five strategies carried out by school principals in improving teacher performance, supervision, discipline development, giving and giving awards. After coaching the teacher's performance, all learning activities can be said to be in a controlled condition, the implementation of supervision has an impact on changes in the learning methods used vary, the application of teacher discipline development is more only as an educator, but also as a role model for students, in presenting teacher motivation and appreciation become more enthusiastic in doing a job and the principal's award is given to teachers holding joint field trips.
