Abstract

This study focuses on the motivational elements that arise in the main character in the story, namely Sayuri in the Memoirs of a Geisha movie, both the motivational elements that arise from within himself or the motivational elements that arise from the encouragement of others or even those around him. This study has several objectives, namely the first is to find out what kind of motivation arises from within Sayuri and the second is to find out what kind of motivational element arises from the encouragement of others. This research uses qualitative descriptive and uses Sigmund Freud's theory of motivation. In this study, there are several conclusions that there are several motivations that arise in Sayuri, such as motivation from within Sayuri itself and motivation that arises due to encouragement from others. There are also various kinds of motivation, but in this research, the researcher only focuses on motivation that arises from within oneself and motivation that arises from others. For example, the motivation that arises from within herself is Sayuri wants to become a geisha to improve her life, and the motivation that arises from other people, namely the person she calls the Chairman gives Sayuri motivation and that is the motivation that arises from the encouragement of others.
