Abstract
Paving block or conblock is a composition of building materials made of a mixture of portland cement or similar hydraulic adhesives, water and aggregates with or without other additives that do not reduce the quality of the concrete (SNI 03-0691-1996). The main elements forming paving blocks are a mixture of aggregate (fine/coarse), water, and cement. Identification for the characteristics of good quality paving blocks are paving blocks that have high compressive strength (MPa units), low infiltration rate (%), and low wear power (mm/min). Paving blocks are used as an alternative to coating or covering the ground surface with the intention of making the surface flat and stable. Based on the shape, paving blocks are divided into two, namely rectangular and polygonal, with different dimensions and colors. This study used a mortar test object in the form of a cube measuring 7 x 7 x 7 cm, conventional paving blocks 20 x 10 x 5 cm. The number of specimens made in this study were 30 cube specimens and 30 conventional paving block specimens. The composition of the mixture was seen from the volume ratio 1: 3, 1: 4, 1: 5, 1: 6. After the test object was 28 days old, the compressive strength and water absorption were tested. Based on the test, it was found that the average compressive strength of paving blocks mixed 1: 3 is 10,143 Mpa and water absorption is 7.08%, mixed 1: 4 is 7,800 Mpa and water absorption is 11.08% mixed 1: 5 is 7.339 Mpa and water absorption of 9.87% mixture of 1: 6 which is 5.212 Mpa and water absorption of 9.79%.
