Abstract

Magelang District has a strategic location, which is between the Yogyakarta-Semarang route which has high economic mobility. Central Magelang District has a narrow area and a dense population. This causes housing problems, for example slum settlements. The purpose of this study was to analyze the quality of settlements and the distribution pattern of slums in Central Magelang District in 2021. The analysis of the quality of settlements was obtained from physical parameters and field surveys. Remote sensing interpretation for settlement quality analysis using Quickbird imagery. The advantage of Quickbird Image is that it has a high resolution so that the recorded features are clearly visible. Processing settlement data is also easy to do with a digitized scale of 1: 20,000. Parameters of settlement quality consist of settlement density, settlement pattern, distribution of shade trees/vegetation, road width, road condition, sanitation condition, flood hazard, waste final disposal site, availability of drinking water, and rain and waste channels in Central Magelang. Field surveys are used to collect real data in the field. The data survey method used is proportional random sampling. The population or object of this research is the Rukun Warga (RW) block, which consists of 73 blocks. Analysis of making maps of the quality of settlements using tiered quantitative analysis. The results of the analysis of the quality of settlements in the District of Central Magelang are divided into 3 classes. The settlement quality map serves to analyze the good and bad settlements to be inhabited. Settlements with good class totaled 30 blocks of RW (179.53 ha), 22 blocks of medium class (234.76 ha), and 21 blocks of poor class (147.09 ha). The pattern of distribution of settlements with poor quality (slums) extends along the riverbank. Urban areas have physical and social vulnerabilities. Central Magelang District has physical vulnerabilities that occur, among others, are prone to fires and floods on the banks of the river. Urban settlements will be prone to fires because of their close proximity to each other, which can cause the fire to quickly spread to other houses. Some locations with narrow roads will complicate the evacuation process. The solution to this problem is that the government can make several fire extinguishers/hydrants. Communities on the banks of the river need to be given an explanation that throwing garbage in the river will be dangerous because it can block the flow of the river, causing flooding. An example of social vulnerability is prone to theft. It is recommended that settlement quality analysis be carried out periodically every few years in order to monitor changes in the slum environment.
