Abstract
Stroke is classified as a neurological deficit related to acute injury to the central nervous system caused by vascular disorders such as: cerebral infarction, intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke is widely considered to be the leading cause of disability in adults. Based on the time after onset, stroke can be classified into several phases, one of which is the acute phase, which is 2X24 hours after onset. There were inconsistencies between the results of previous studies, it was noted that early and intensive mobilization within 24 hours after onset had an impact on increasing the recovery of functional abilities, but in other studies showed poor results related to disability. The purpose of this study was to determine the benefits of physiotherapy intervention on disability and motor function in acute-phase stroke patients. Methods: Literature review with articles obtained from the electronic database Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), Sage, biomedic Database (PubMed), Science Direct, and National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), published from 2010 to 2021, using keywords “physiotherapy intervention” or “excercise” or “therapeutic modalities intervention” or “functional training” or “occupational therapy” or “robot assisted training” and “Strok Acute Phase”. Results: The search yielded 328 articles, after reading 11 articles related to physiotherapy interventions in acute-phase stroke patients, selection was made according to the inclusion criteria, and the remaining 7 articles were for review. Excercise such as VEM, EM, HABIT, PNF, CTE which started less than 2X24 hours were able to significantly improve motor function in acute phase stroke patients. Conclusion: Excercise that carried out earlier (2x24 hours after onset) has an impact on increasing motor functional recovery. Out-of-bed activities carried out for a longer time have an impact on increasing odds of disability outcome.
