Abstract

In an effort to face the challenges of competition in the world of work, the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) seeks to produce students who are ready to work, have a global perspective, and have a strengthened understanding of the Islamic religion. Students are required to take several courses that support soft skills that open students' ways of thinking about the world of work, so that students are familiar with the challenges of the world of work. In addition, activities in campus organizations are expected to help develop and strengthen the character of students to be ready to enter the world of work. This study aims to analyze the effect of soft skills and organizational activity on student work readiness. This research belongs to the type of quantitative research (based on numbers analyzed with statistics) with an associative approach (relationships between variables). The research population is all 2018 FEB-UMS Management Study Program students, totaling 225 students. Samples were taken as many as 68 students using the formula from Isaac and Michael at 5% alpha. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling. The data source used is primary data obtained through a questionnaire (questionnaire). The data analysis technique used is multiple linear regression analysis, F test, t test, and coefficient of determination test. Previously, the classical assumption test was carried out in the form of normality test, multicollinearity test, and heteroscedasticity test. The results showed that: (1) Soft skills had a positive and significant effect on the work readiness of FEB UMS students. It is evident from the results of the t-test that the tcount of 4.865 is accepted at a significance level of 5% (p<0.05). This means that work readiness is influenced by the soft skill competencies possessed by students. The higher the student's soft skills, the higher the job readiness. On the other hand, the lower the student's soft skills, the lower the job readiness; (2) Organizational activity has a positive and significant effect on the work readiness of FEB UMS students. It is evident from the results of the t-test that the tcount of 4.206 is accepted at a significance level of 5% (p<0.05). This means that the level of work readiness is influenced by the activeness of student organizations. The higher the activeness of students in organizations, the higher the readiness for work. On the other hand, the lower the student activity in organizations, the lower the job readiness.
