Abstract
One of the government's efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19 is the Implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) where interactive daily activities are diverted to online activities. The implementation of this PPKM activity is often a trending topic on Twitter, where Indonesia is the country with the 5th most Twitter users after the USA, Brazil, Japan and England, which underlies the author's desire to investigate further about how Twitter is portrayed as a student cathartic medium. during the Enforcement of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM). The purpose of this study was to determine the description of how students use Twitter as a medium for catharsis during PPKM. Respondents in this study were taken using a convenience purposive sampling technique with the criteria of UMS students being Twitter users. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection tools in the form of an open questionnaire, with the analytical method using thematic analysis. The results obtained are that 96% of respondents use Twitter as a cathartic medium during PPKM because Twitter is a private medium (48%), simple and practical (39%), many mutual sympathy, and feel the same thing (8%). The majority of respondents were crippled because they were bored and bored due to PPKM, stressed and felt the need to vent their emotions safely because they were unable to tell other people their problems in the real world.
