Abstract

Ngargoyoso District is one of the sub-districts located in Karanganyar Regency that has a tea land with its own characteristics and is different from other regions, one of which is in Kemuning Village. This distinctive feature can be requested legal protection by being registered as a product of Geographical Indication, but the understanding of the community is so lacking that until now Kemuning tea has not been registered. The purpose of this study is to find out the knowledge of the Kemuning community on intellectual property geographical indications of Kemuning tea and to find out the benefits of registration of Geographical Indications by the community as well as the role of local governments on intellectual property Geographical Indications of Kemuning tea. This research method is normative-empirical to examine the implementation or implementation of positive legal provisions and factually written documents on a particular legal event that occurs in society. The type of research used is descriptive where to obtain new images or strengthen existing images or vice versa. The type of data used is primary data obtained from primary legal materials as well as direct information during interviews and secondary data obtained from documents that can explain primary legal material. The results showed that the people of Kemuning villages do not know about intellectual property geographical indications, even though many benefits are obtained for the people of Kemuning village itself and consumers if tea gets geographical indication protection, factors that affect local governments that pay less attention to Kemuning tea to potential geographical indications.
