Abstract

Character education is one thing that needs to be included in the implementation of education in schools to create students who have noble character. One of the character values that need to be instilled in students is religious character. Religious character is very much needed in an effort to prevent moral degradation that can occur due to changing times. At this time, the main problem in implementing religious character education is that these activities cannot be carried out as usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has resulted in all teaching and learning activities being carried out virtually. SMP Negeri 1 Teras has a strong commitment to continue to develop the religious character of students despite the limitations of virtual learning. The existence of these limitations makes PAI teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Teras continue to develop strategies for implementing student religious character education so that they can produce maximum results in student character development. This study describes the strategies used by PAI teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Teras to instill religious character in students during the pandemic. The purpose of this study is to describe how the strategies used by PAI teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Teras to instill religious character during the pandemic, and how the results of implementing these strategies were. This research is a field research with a phenomenological approach, which uses data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. In this study, the validity of the data was tested using triangulation of source data and techniques. The data analysis technique uses data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and then draws conclusions. The results of this study showed that during the pandemic at SMP Negeri 1 Teras, PAI teachers continued to instill religious character by using strategies of understanding, habituation, exemplary, and discipline. The application of the four strategies is quite effective in instilling the religious character of students during the pandemic. The results of the application of these strategies include: 1) Cognitively students are able to understand the values of religious characters taught during learning. 2) Affectively students have been able to appreciate the values of religious character and have been able to show the attitudes of students with religious character. 3) Psychomotorically, students are able to show their skills in applying the values of religious character into everyday life.
